Biomolecules and Nanostructures 4

15-19 May 2013, Pultusk, Poland

General Information

The Institute of Physics of Polish Academy of Sciences in Warsaw, the Committee of Physics of Polish Academy of Sciences and the Pro Physica Foundation are organizing a 4th edition of the Meeting on Biomolecules and Nanostructures.

Our mission is to provide an informal, creative atmosphere and highly interactive nature of this meeting. Previous editions of this conference have gained the enthusiastic feedback from participants. Now, we have more than 140 registered persons and hope to meet everyone in Pultusk.

The key topics of the Conference cover current subjects on the crossroads of molecular biology, physics and chemistry, including:

  • Biomolecules
  • Nanostructures
  • Nanomachines
  • Biosensors

The specific topics of the conference include:

  • supramolecular assemblies
  • single-molecule manipulation
  • protein folding and aggregation
  • interactions between nucleic acids and proteins
  • dynamics of biomembranes
  • hybrid structures
  • and other phenomena at bio-nano interfaces

Both experimental and theoretical approaches will be presented.

The Conference is organized under the auspices of the National Multidisciplinary Laboratory of Functional Nanomaterials - NanoFun, financed by the Innovative Economy Operational Programme, Priority Axis 2: R&D Infrastructure, Action 2.2: Support of Formation of Common Research Infrastructure of Scientific Units. The Workshop is also a conference of the Division of Physics in Life Science of the European Physical Society.

The dates are May 15 (Wednesday) - May 19 (Sunday) 2013.

Abstract submission is closed.

A few short talks have been selected from abstracts.

The abstracts book will be issued within the Europhysics Conference Abstracts series published by the European Physical Society.

European Physical Society is a sponsor of the lecture by Damien Thompson from Tyndall Institute in Cork, Ireland, entitled: Nanoscale computer-aided design of self-assembling materials for electronics and health applications.

Travel grants

European Physical Society has sponsored 2 travel grants for graduate students participating in the conference. The grant is in the amount of 350 EUR each. If you are interested in obtaining one please write a letter to the Organizers requesting it. Include the list of publications and a statement about your intended contribution to the meeting.

We are pleased to announce that the travel grants have been awarded to:

  • Roberto Covino, University of Trento, ITALY
  • Svetlana Hristova, Bulgarian Academy of Sciences, Sofia, BULGARIA

The Conference will take place in a 1319 castle in Pultusk - one of the oldest Polish towns, about 60 km north from Warsaw. Untill the end of the XVIII century, the castle used to be a residence of the Mazovian bishops. Napoleon was among those who stayed there (in 1806 and 1812 to monitor war efforts). The place houses up to 150 participants. It offers all relevant facilities, a nearby park and forests and a wild Narew river with several birds' reservation around. The place is also a site of the ESF-EMBO symposia.

How to get there

  • The nearest airport is the Chopin Airport in Warsaw.
  • You can get from Warsaw to Pultusk by bus starting from the bus station Warsaw West (dworzec autobusowy Warszawa Zachodnia; the same location as the train station Warsaw West - the train station is the 5th stop of the S2, S3C or S3S trains starting from the Warsaw Chopin Airport). The bus travel takes about 1.5-2 hours. Tickets can be purchased online. Please, consult the current bus timetable.
  • The closest train station to Pultusk is Legionowo, that can be reached by the S3C or S3S trains from Warsaw centre or the Chopin Airport) or by Koleje Mazowieckie (KM) trains.

Conference Buses

A group transportation will be provided from Warsaw to Pultusk on May 15th 2013 (Wednesday) at 4 p.m. The busses will depart from the parking place in front of the Palace of Culture and Science (near to the Warsaw-Central Railway Station, on the southern side of the Palace, in front of the entrance to the Kinoteka cinema, paralelly to Jerozolimskie Avenues). The busses will be indicated by the conference posters.

After the conference, on May 19th 2013 (Sunday), we will arrange for two transfers from Pultusk to Warsaw, at 8:30 a.m. and at 10:00 or 11:00. The participants who are going to depart at given time will be asked to sign in the lists at the conference registration desk. The buses will stop near the Warsaw-Central Railway Station, and will go further to the Chopin Airport.

Please, watch the conference website for updates.

Individual transfers will be arranged for the invited speakers in both directions, if necessary, e.g. directly from/to the Chopin Airport.
